Last year I had the pleasure of photographing several weddings at Islington Town Hall – one of which was my first gay wedding, exciting!
If you are currently looking for a wedding ceremony venue in North London, you might want to consider Islington Town Hall.
The building itself is listed. Its façade provides a good backdrop for confetti shots and large group photos. Inside, there are some gorgeous features: a beautiful marble staircase, stained-glass windows and green elaborate ceilings.
Islington Town Hall offers four different rooms licensed for marriage (including same sex marriage) and civil partnership.
My favourite room is, of course, The Council Chamber with its vaulted ceiling and stained-glass adorned windows. It is the largest room available for civil ceremonies at Islington Town Hall. Although it can accommodate up to 100 guests, the horseshoe seating arrangements make the room feels quite intimate. There is also a gallery that can accommodate 60 additional guests.
The Richmond Room is the room where I photographed my first same-sex wedding. The long, oblong room accommodates 60 guests. Its features include oak panelling, high elaborate ceilings, and large windows providing lots of natural light. The Richmond Room is only available on Saturdays except on the second Saturday of each month.
The following rooms are smaller and I have not had the opportunity to photograph any weddings there yet.
Room 99 holds up to 28 guests. It is a high-ceilinged, airy room with large windows. It is decorated with tasteful simplicity, in red and gold with permanent floral displays.
The Mayor's Parlour is an intimate room accommodating only 12 guests. This charming room is oak panelled and furnished luxuriously in red leather. Couples can make their vows in front of the built-in fireplace.
And for those of you looking for a chic wedding reception venue close by, look no further than Islington Assembly Hall.
Islington Assembly Hall is actually located next to Islington Town Hall so no need to organise any transport. You can actually have both your wedding ceremony and your reception at Islington Assembly Hall as it is licensed to hold civil ceremonies and partnerships.
I discovered this stunning art deco wedding reception venue last year as it held the Chosen Wedding Fair where I was exhibiting. It has a beautiful stage which is perfect for live music.
The foyer, with its luxurious red carpet, is the perfect space for reception drinks. It holds around 120 people standing. The main hall accommodates up to 170 seated guests and up to 250 people in a more informal layout.
