As an alternative wedding photographer one of the reasons why I choose to work with laidback couples is that they are flexible and to a certain extent, spontaneous.
The following alternative wedding took place on a gorgeous November day in Crouch End, North London.
After shooting the wedding ceremony, some group shots and portraits at Hornsey Town Hall, the couple decided to walk to the wedding reception venue instead of taking a cab. On the way to the Three Compasses in Crouch End, the bride suggested that we went for a stroll in Priory Park.
Although the couple and I discuss the timeline of the day together before the wedding, I do not mind last minute changes.
My approach to wedding photography is relaxed for three reasons. The first one is that it is important to me that the couple I photograph thoroughly enjoys their day – I know how stressful this unusual situation can be and it certainly helps to see that your photographer is confident that everything will be alright. The second reason is that I want to enjoy my job and the way I manage to do that is by being fully present in the moment. And last by not least the more relaxed I am the more creative I am.
So I welcomed this unexpected walk in the park as an opportunity to shoot portraits in an environment that I would have normally overlooked. Although I love nature, it is not my first choice when looking for photogenic portrait locations as I am more drawn to urban photography. However in this case it would have been such a shame to miss the gorgeous autumn colours and evening light. Enjoy!
