a non-traditional wedding photographer

with an insatiable taste for anything different and a very chic French accent

Hi! I’m Barbara, a non-traditional wedding photographer based in Muswell Hill, North London.

I’m French but I’m nice. It simply means that the first time we meet, there will be an awkward moment when I hesitate between shaking your hand, giving you a hug or politely bowing.

Also, occasionally I’ll be calling ‘cufflinks’, ‘handcuffs’.

I love genuine people and quirky photography.
Or, is it quirky people and genuine photography???

I have been capturing other people’s memories and disguising this activity as a career for the past 10 years – just because I love parties and being around happy people!

If you have come this far, I bet you would like to know more about your potential wedding photographer. Lucky you! Here is a little interview I prepared earlier where I asked myself 5 questions you probably never thought of!

What type of people hire you?
All sorts: from hipsters, to couples allergic to social media, to people getting married for the second time. But mostly Londoners who are looking for a non-traditional wedding photographer and like my urban wedding photography style. I also work with a lot of multicultural couples – which is perfect as I love discovering new things.

The great thing about the people who hire me is that they love music and hire fantastic musicians for their wedding day – it’s such a treat for me to be able to enjoy live music while working!
Oh, and for some reason, I tend to attract sound engineers…

What inspires you?
Colours, texture, graphic elements, architecture, interesting artificial light, expressive people.

As a London wedding photographer, what is the most useful skill you have developed over the years?
Definitely keeping my balance on a moving double-decker wedding bus while shooting backwards from a low vantage point.

What is the question you get asked the most at weddings?
“Any good ones?” and “How many pictures have you taken so far?”

Do you dream about your job at night?
Yes, I have terrible nightmares where I have less than an hour to get ready to shoot a wedding in a foreign city and I haven’t got my gear with me so I have to borrow my uncle’s camera and somehow manage to shoot a whole wedding on a 16MB memory card!

random facts about me

I can only sleep well on a futon, I am really good with chopsticks and I would love to live in Kyoto. That is probably why I have married a Japanese guy.

I have a secret love for musical films like Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Cabaret or Hair.

I love fringe shows, circus and live comedy.

I stopped watching TV fifteen years ago. And no, I don’t watch Netflix either. My complete lack of popular culture knowledge will seriously freak you out!
