Now, here is a blog post that I really enjoyed researching and writing. I would be very happy if I could help you find one or two songs that will make you smile, tap your feet or remember fond memories.
You have probably already decided on the most important song for your wedding – either for the ceremony or the first dance. That must have been a no-brainer. Of course! Because it’s YOUR song, THE song that represents you as a couple, the song that will always remind you of your unique relationship and the beginning of your story together. So what’s your song? Ours is “Somebody” by Depeche Mode.
One song does not make a playlist though, so in case you have run out of ideas for great love songs, here are a few of my own favourite ones. Enjoy!
“The Origin of Love” – Hedwig and the Angry Inch. A song based on a story from Plato’s Symposium. From the cult musical by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask. It had to be the first one!
“First Day of My Life” – Bright Eyes. ‘I think I was blind before I met you’… This must be a classic for alternative wedding music playlists. Lovely video directed by John Cameron Mitchell.
“I’m in Love with a Girl” – Big Star. Very short and sweet. Can’t believe this song is almost as old as I am!
“Real Love” – Beach House. Love the music and the voice. “You know you know we belong”…
A Girl Like You” – Pete Yorn. A song to make her feel special.
“500 Miles” – The Proclaimers. A classic from Scotland.
“Until I Die” – Ben Kweller. A beautiful song by a musical wunderkind.
“Question” – Old 97’s. “What was he so nervous about…”
“I Like the Way This Is Going” – Eels. “I like the way your pants fit, how you stand and how you sit…”
“Pecan Pie” – Golden Smog. Here is some Alternative Country-Rock for you!
“Comme des Enfants” – Coeur de Pirate. Very short and sweet. A cute song by a Quebecoise singer/songwriter. Even if you don’t speak French I’m sure you can appreciate how beautiful this song is.
“I’ll Be Your Mirror” – The Velvet Underground and Nico. Love with a German accent…
“Toothpaste Kisses” – The Maccabees. Love the image.
“Thank You for Your Love” – Antony and The Johnsons. Not very cheerful but beautiful.
“Lover” – Devendra Banhart. Now, this song makes me want to get up and dance!
“5 Years Time” – Noah and the Whale. Don’t you just love ukulele?
“Les Amants” – Les Rita Mitsouko. A song from the film “Les Amants du Pont-Neuf” by one of the most acclaimed musical acts in France.
“Anyone Else but You” – Moldy Peaches. You definitely know this song if you’ve seen the film “Juno”.
“Everlasting Light” – The Black Keys. A bit of Indie Rock for a change.
“Kiss Me” – Sixpence None the Richer. One for the girls. Can’t help singing along to this one..
“Lay Your Head Down” – Keren Ann. The intro reminds me of Velvet Underground…
“Laid” – James. “The neighbours complain about the noises above…” Funny!
“Baby’s Arms” – Kurt Vile. Just love the mood of this song.
“Sea of Love” – Tom Wait. Tom Wait’s dark take on a rather cheesy 50’s song. Can’t resist his voice…
“If I think of Love” – Lisa Germano. Last but not least. For more complicated relationships, I guess…
