What a treat for a North London wedding photographer: a fun, non-traditional wedding with a vintage vibe and lots of personal touches. Plus, two of London’s best wedding venues: Stoke Newington Town Hall and the unique Mildmay Club!

Oh my goodness – these are incredible!!! So many tears looking through these, they’re so beautiful and you have so perfectly captured the vibe and atmosphere of our day. We will treasure them forever. Family and friends are absolutely thrilled with the photos, they really are so perfect, we can’t thank you enough. Lots of love xxx

The Enquiry
Believe it or not, it was the first time a mother of the bride emailed me!
The couple
“Hi Barbara,
it’s my daughter who’s getting married, not me – Jasmine, an actress and Luke her partner, who is a cider-maker.
They’re in their late 20s, and are planning an eclectic London wedding with a laid-back, retro style and family and friends (about 120) at the heart of it all.
They love music and dancing and have ideas for the occasional theatrical moment or two. Regarding the wedding day, they’re dispensing with some of the formalities, like best man and bridesmaids, cake cutting and formal speeches.”
The wedding plans
“The wedding is taking place on April 16th. They have booked the Council Chamber at Stoke Newington Town Hall for 1pm. After the ceremony I think Routemasters will be involved. There will be a prosecco and cider reception at Mildmay Club and long tables full of sharing platters for the meal. The party in the evening will wrap at midnight.
Evening entertainment is still to be confirmed but will hopefully be ‘Just These Please’, a comedy sketch group they are friends with. This will then be followed by another friend playing live music with his band ‘Son of John’, and will incorporate some sort of “first dance”. Then disco time!”

“For me, as a film and media teacher, getting the photography right is an absolute essential. I’ve read so much about you and your style, which has completely won me over and I also love that you’re local to North London. I just feel this could be a great match! Thanks Barbara, hope to hear from you soon. I’m keeping my fingers crossed until then! Nikki x”
Soon after my reply, I received a message from Jasmine and Luke.
“We’ve all been researching for a while but nothing seemed quite right, but from what we’ve seen/read/heard so far, you have exactly the vibe we’re all about! We’re basically planning one hell of a party!
When do you think you would want to start and end the day? I don’t want getting ready photos, but perhaps some shots in the pub with Luke before the ceremony might be nice? And definitely my arriving at the Town Hall!
North London wedding venues
After the pandemic break, I was happy to photograph a wedding at Stoke Newington Town Hall again. It’s definitely one of my favourite registry offices in London. And, I think the Council Chamber’s art deco style made a great backdrop for Jasmine and Luke’s elegant wedding.
I was super excited to shoot my first wedding at the Mildmay Club. Just a 5-minute drive from the Town Hall, it’s a fantastic vintage wedding venue in North London. It looks like the club hasn’t changed since the 1970s! I loved capturing the vibe and the quirky details of this unique place. No need to go out scouting for photogenic couple portraits backdrops either, there were lots of choice inside the venue.

The Day After the Wedding
“Where to begin?! What. A. Day!! We’re still recovering after all this time! Thank you so much for going above and beyond in the build-up and on the day. We were in such a whirlwind we had no idea where you were most of the time – photo ninja indeed! We can’t wait to see the results and hope you managed to enjoy the day too.”
