Mildmay Club Wedding

A super fun gay wedding party at the Mildmay club, a 60s/70s wedding venue in North London + a relaxed wedding ceremony in the Council Chamber at Hackney Town Hall.

Thanks so much for the photos. You have done such a tremendous job of not just documenting the day, but somehow capturing the vibe and the energy from start to finish. The end product is even better than we had hoped for when we were first in touch with our enquiry! Family and guests agree too – one opened the gallery on a hangover, cried and declared them the best wedding photos he has ever seen.

The Enquiry

“Hello Barbara!

I’m currently organising my wedding with my partner, Steve, and we wanted to check if you’re available to document the day.

We will be getting married on Saturday 13th July at 3.30pm at Hackney Town Hall, followed by a reception until late at the Mildmay Club in Stoke Newington. I saw you’ve photographed at both venues before, so thought you’d be a good person to check in with.

Incidentally, I also recognised an old colleague (and friend!) Donal on your website!”

The Wedding Plans

“The order of events is still a ‘bit’ fluid, but should look something like this:
2.30pm – Rhys and Steve travel to Registry office
3pm – Guests arrive at Hackney Town Hall
3.30pm – Ceremony in Council Chamber with two readings and ‘community vows’
3.50pm – 4.10pm – Confetti and group photos
4.10pm – Guests head over to Mildmay Club
4.30pm – 5.45pm – Some kind of welcome drinks and canapes
6pm – 7.30pm – Wedding breakfast (i.e. vegan Italian food) and a few (hopefully!) short speeches
8pm – Evening guests arrive. Enthusiastic dancing. Maybe a costume change?
8pm – 11pm Photobooth
11.45pm – Last song

We will have 85 guests there for the serious bit, then probably around 120 total for dancing.
Not planning on having a band – we’ve booked a DJ with Wedding Smashers though.

We’ve also hired an OTD coordinator (Dita Rosted) who we will be handing over to about a month in advance so we may connect you at some point!”

Fun Wedding Photography

“We will of course firm all this up a little closer to the time and might not need you there until they cut the power or anything, but we would like to book your services for the full day package to make sure we are well covered.

Overall vibe of the day is going to be relaxed/informal and we are exclusively inviting fun people, so your style of photography looks like a good fit. We would probably want a few family photos for our mums to look at, but certainly not looking for any shots of a line of groomsmen striding purposefully toward the camera, nor any school photo style portraits!

We’re aware that you don’t use a flash. Fortunately, one of our guests is a professional lighting designer, so we can put him to work! I’m sure he can sort some additional uplighters.”
