Barbican Conservatory Wedding

A non-traditional wedding in the Conservatory at the Barbican Centre, a unique wedding venue in the City of London.

Here is how Damian and Katherine described their Barbican Conservatory wedding plans and what they were looking for in terms of photography.

“We are having a non-traditional wedding at the Barbican Conservatory on Saturday 6th April. We really like your photos and philosophy so think you’ll be great for us. To be honest, in the great scheme of things, I doubt the wedding will be that “alternative”. We just want the emphasis to be on people having fun. Just to warn you we will need some more formal family shots (not least to appease our parents!) but generally speaking capturing people enjoying themselves sounds perfect. Sadly neither of us is particularly artistic but we like the Barbican a lot and there seems to be potential for some unusual, arty shots so any ideas you have on that front would be much appreciated.”

As I love the Barbican’s architecture and discovering new unusual wedding venues in London, I was delighted. And, when I realised that live music would be an important part of their wedding celebrations, I couldn’t be happier!

Getting ready at home

I arrived at Katherine’s flat just a few minutes before the wedding party was going to leave for the Barbican. She was getting ready with her parents and her three best friends.

Conservatory Terrace

The wedding took place on the Conservatory terrace. Katherine and Damian had added a few personal touches to the ceremony: two readings and some music played by musician friends. Also, The Voce Chamber Choir performed several both classical pieces and modern songs.

Conservatory – Couple Shots

While the guests were enjoying champagne and canapes, we took a few minutes for some couple shots in the Conservatory.

Barbican Centre – Couple shots

Although the weather wasn’t very warm, I suggested a short walk around the Barbican Centre. Katherine and Damian agreed that it would be a shame not to use this photogenic place as a backdrop.

Before the three course meal was served, everyone had the pleasure to listen to some very funny speeches from friends and family.
