Asylum Chapel Wedding

A beautiful, personalised Asylum Chapel wedding ceremony + a fun, informal reception at The Ivy House pub in Peckham. Eleanor and Tim chose two quirky South East London wedding venues for their relaxed wedding day.

“Thank you SO much for the photos. We absolutely love them! You managed to totally capture the feel and atmosphere of the day. And I didn’t even notice you taking any photos!”

The Enquiry

Although Eleanor’s initial enquiry was very basic, I was quite excited at the couple’s choice of wedding venues:

“Hi Barbara, We’ve found your name on the Evening Standard’s Best London Wedding Photographers‘ list. Your work looks perfect for what we’re looking for! We’re getting married at the Asylum in Peckham and having a big party at the Ivy House pub after. Are you free on Friday 5th October? We’re interested in a full day wedding photography package.”

The Wedding Plans

During our video call, Eleanor and Tim told me more about their plans for the day. It was all about having a great time with family and friends – just my type of fun, laid back weddings.

Prep Shots

“We’d like you to start documenting the day at our flat in Forest Hill. Eleanor and her three best friends, who are also her bridesmaids, will be getting ready with the make up artist and the hairdresser.

After the ‘getting ready photos‘, it would be great if you could photograph Tim and our guests arriving at Caroline Gardens.”

Wedding Ceremony

“We’re having a personalised ceremony at 12.30pm. Two of our friends have offered to read short poems during the ceremony. And we’re going to invite everyone to sing along to Nat King Cole’s ‘Let There Be Love’.

During the signing of the register, Tim’s mum will be playing the ukulele and sing a song called ‘Love Is’ that she has written and composed especially for us.

After the ceremony and the confetti, we’re having some fizz and Swedish canapes in memory of Anne-Marie, Eleanor’s Swedish Grandmother.

Then, we’ve hired a wedding bus to take everyone to the reception venue.”

Wedding Reception

“We’ve chosen The Ivy House in Nunhead for our reception. It’s a community-owned pub, a quirky place full of character. The ballroom has a stage and mirrored-walls and there’s a beer garden at the back.

After the meal, there will be a few speeches from family and friends. Then, we’ll be cutting the cake made by one of our friends. Actually, we’ve asked our guests to bring some homemade cakes for our dessert table.

Dancing will start at 7pm – the two DJ’s are our friends.”
